Bugs for Dinner?
Amy is chatting with her American friend Lorne about one of Korea's more unusual dishes. The two have a discussion about eating preferences around the world. Will Lorne ever change his mind?
A - Have you tried beondegi yet? The snack made of roasted silkworm pupae?
L - Augh! No way! The idea of eating insects is revolting!
A - Maybe to you, but there's a whole laundry list of insects people around the world eat every day.
L - But that's only in very poor countries.
A - Guess again. Unbeknownst to most consumers, there are allowable levels of insects or insect parts in food products all over the world - even in America.
L - Blech. I have heard that insects offer a lot of bang for the buck nutritionally, but I still wouldn't choose to eat them.
A - Never say never. You might come around eventually.
